Fifth gear keeps poping out of gear, i think its the syncro, so as far as i know as long as i dont go into fifth its not hurting the trans. What kind pof gass hit will i get from fifth to fourth?

you,ll take a hit on the mileage for sure ,probably about 1-3 miles per gallon,because 5,th gear really helps a lot on mileage,i went through this with a Toyota once,and it did make a big difference in the mileage,if the car is worth it ,id get a transmission for it,you should be able to find a good used one for it for about 150-200 bucks,and that would be better than driving it around in 4,th gear all the time,its also going to make the engine rev more,good luck with it.

Depends on teh ratio of 4th to 5th-usually a pretty good hit, though.

Just repair the transmission .
