Okay, not to sound like a total dork, but I finally finished the last book! I am so glad Harry didn't die! What did you think of the ending?

For those who asked....
I started it right when it first came out, but I had twin daughters, so that's why it took me so long to read it!

It's a long book! congrats on sticking with it.

Yes, I am glad Harry didn't die! I didn't think he would, but I was thinking he would do something like dying (I thought he was going to go across the veil and come back or something. ) so that sort of happened in the whole kings cross thing.

I love the ending of the battle (where harry calls voldemort "Tom") and I loved mrs weasley (not my daughter, you - !!) So I liked the way the main book wrapped up. I didn't really like the epilogue (19 yrs later); I guess she wrote it a long time ago (she said she's had the last chapter written for 10 yrs) but I thought it wasn't as well written as the rest of the book. It wasn't necessarily the information she gave away, so much as it was kind of weird to see old harry, old hermione, etc.

(did the person who answered before me mean he didn't like the epilogue - the last chapter? because I liked the prologue, with the quotes from the libation bearers, etc.) it gave you a clue right away that the book was going to be heavy, complex and emotionally resonant.

I liked it. From the first, Harry is the boy who had no family, whose only blood kin abused him.

One of the underlying themes in the series is Harry finding his family; Ron and Hermione (his true brother and sister), the Weasley family (If I'd been at the Ginny/Harry wedding, I'd have congratulated Molly and Arthur on being the parents of both the bride and groom 8^) ), Gryffindor and Hogwarts.

So for me, it was great to see Harry fulfilled as a husband and father.

Yes, it might have been fun to have seen more about other characters, but I was content (Professor Longbottom rocks!!!).

I stayed up until six in the morning to read it. I was weeping becasue 1) the book was great 2) Snape was actually good, but then died and 3)I was entering life after Harry Potter!

I loved all of it!

I thought the ending was okay. A bit too neatly tied up with a pretty little ribbon for my tastes, but I'm too realistic to believe that Harry ends up with a perfectly adjusted white-picket-fence kind of life after the childhood he had. I'm glad he didn't die, but I didn't like that we were led to believe that everything was perfect and beautiful as soon as Voldemort died.

I thought it was a satisfactory ending, and entirely Rowling's style. I was terribly sad over Snape's demise, but I figured his end was inevitable. I was most upset at the finality of the canon, but luckily there is always fantastic fanfiction to satisfy each and every missing moment you didn't see but wanted to in Potterverse!

By the way, I applaud you for posting a SPOILER ALERT with your question, it was very considerate to fans who might be a bit behind the majority of us :).

I loved it because he lived and lived happily every after with GInny and the kids. When did you start the book? It only took me one entire day and that was with constant interruptions.

You are not a total dork btw

I thought the ending was great but I have to agree that it shouldn't have been tied up so neatly.
But other than that the only problem I have with the ending is that Neville doesn't kill Bellatrix

I loved the ending, I'm really happy that Rowling didn't leave us hanging on what happened to everyone. Closure is a good thing!!

I thought it was ok. I was a bit disappointed. Rowling managed to continue Harry's parallel to Jesus with the self sacrifice, without him actually dying.
Also I HATED the prologue.

I dunno, I was kinda dissapointed with DH. There were some things that I wanted to happen that didnt. The ending was pretty good though. And yes I'm glad Harry didnt die!
