I will ask this one more time:
I am trying to help a very good friend of mine to find the BEST school for his son. They live in Cleveland so it can be public or privet. But it has to have the BEST Special Education program around !! The boy is in 9 th grade, suffers from depression, anger issues, bi~polarer, and a couple of other issues, but is very bright !!! He is currently going to Mentor, but is getting in trouble every day because, he is not being push educationally, just put through the grade.

My own kids go to Mentor. It is a good school. It is just the program and the classes he is in are below his level. To easy, he is to smart for them. But with his problems they don't have anything tougher for him. He needs more challenging work to do. He is getting in trouble because he is bord !!!!

This is just a suggestion: Try the Lawrence School.
My husband's stylist sent her son there for several years. He has learning disabilities and did quite well. It was pricey, but she felt it was worth it. I don't know much more than the little she told us, but it is worth investigating.

Have you tried contacting the state department of Education in Ohio to get information on schools for advanced or gifted kids? I would also get in touch with the state's division of developmental disabilities services, because it sounds as though this young man may possibly have Asperger's Syndrome, a mild form of autism. He should be evaluated to see if this is the case, so he can be placed in an enviornment which is most appropriate for him educationally and socially. Both of the state agencies should be able to provide referrals and a list of education programs which may meet his needs.

Hope this helps you out some.

PS: Ignore "Doug" as he calls himself- your friend's son does NOT need to be beaten, and and I can understand what is going on, because I work in the field where there are kids just like him. Asperger's is treatable, as are depression and bipolar disorder. This sounds like a case of a square peg being pushed into a round hole- the fit isn't going to be very good. Check with Ohio's state agencies like the ones I mentioned- they should be able to help you out.

Brecksville High School.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is a comprehensive high school with approximately 1,650 students in grades 9-12 serving the communities of Brecksville, Broadview Heights, and a very small segment of North Royalton. The school year is comprised of two 90-day semesters with four nine-week grading periods. All extra-curricular activities are held outside the school day. Many students participate in extra-curricular and interscholastic activities. After graduation, approximately 96% of our graduates continue their education at the college or university level. The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School "Bees" are members of the Southwestern athletic conference (SWC).

For nearly half a century, BBH students have qualified as National Merit Finalists or Commended Students. More than one-third of our seniors graduate with honors diplomas and many earn the President's Education Award for a 3.5 GPA and 85th percentile ranking on college admissions tests. The class of 2006 was awarded more than $8.2 million in college scholarships and grants. On the 2006 Ohio Graduation Test, a significant percentage of BBHHS sophomores scored at the Accelerated or Advanced levels: Writing, 95.3%; Reading, 92.4%; Math, 93.7%; Social Studies, 85.5%; and Science, 81.5%.

this kid isnt getting in trouble because he is bored, he is in trouble because he is a trouble maker...he needs his A*S*S* beat and some discipline...dont give me this bipolar, anger, depression sad song, either. Lots of kids have issues...More than that! Mentor is a good school system, and the problem is with the kid and the lack of parenting, not the school...perhaps he will learn to grow up soon...and make the most of his situation.

Malika's right - she should check out the Lawrence School. My sister in law used to work there and I know they have good programs for children with the kind of issues you've described that seem to work. I've included their website address below.

Good luck to your friend - if this doesn't work out I hope she finds another great school for her son.

Mentor is the best. The kid just needs counseling. He needs to push himself like all other bright kids.
