I dont like "big oil" for the same reasons I dont like big government.

Corporations have one goal, making loads of money. At this point, they have such a monopoly over such an essential resource to americans that they are screwing everyone over just to make an extra profit because they can and we dont have any other options. The worst part of this is that they are using this profit to pay people to do fake research to make them seem less bad, and pay millions of dollars to lobyists to get laws in place that help them.

I hate lobbyists. The whole idea is revolting. We're a democracy, that is a government run by the people. Why is it OK for corporations to pay money to people to influence the government?!?

Also, big oil does not help out other countries. It can, look at Kuwait. But Iraq is in poverty and had huge golden palaces for its government.

Being a business, you obviously need to make money. But when the corporation, not just oil but any corporation, starts influencing the government and thusly the citizens, thats when they lose my support.

I don't work for "big oil". I don't get any of the benefits of the huge profits accumulated by "big oil". In fact, I have just the opposite result. I am paying $30 to fill my gas tank while 3 years ago it cost me $10. I don't think 1/4 of 1% of the population benefits from "big oil" gouging like you do. I am happy for you. At least somebody is benefiting!

They also take from the poor too. Most 3rd world countries have no pollution laws so the oil companies pollute the water and causes the poor to have no means to fish or hunt. Your example is not good at all since many illegal industries pump money into the economy. Look at the opium trade in Afghanistan for example. Their #1 export is drugs.
Most drive by media such as conservative talk shows and fox news are owned by corporations and they only talk about the positives which is what they are being paid to do. Oil companies care about 1 thing and that is profits so don't get fooled by their feel good stories.

I'm not complaining about people being employed by big oil. When I was in Peace Corps, a Halliburton owned pump was in my county and some people had pretty good lifestyles due to the oil rig.

However, green technologies are also billion dollar industries that also employ a large number of people. Why are they any less valid?

Who says we dont?

I am against large corporations and conglomerates in the tradition of Teddy Roosevelt---all large companies are evil and should be destroyed. Theyre an affront to capitalism and take away the power of the people in gov't and economics. They place monetary power into the hands of the few who are able to translate monetary power into political and social power.

I would happily exchange a lower standard of living for a less skewed standard of living that inherently favors the wealthy. Those same people who make their money off of "Big Oil" are still being wronged just by the large oil companies existing.

Small business can provide jobs just as easily without placing a majority of the profits into the pockets of a select few. Small businesses make a more even playing field, allow for more competition, and keep the elite from having the power to undermine the people in general.

The reason they don't is because of the money that they take out of our economy and pumps the profit into their pockets. Oil is not a commodty anymore it is a neccessity. The oil companies use us just like a puppet on a string. Food, clothing, and shelter used to be the only thing we needed, but you can add oil to that list now.

I don't have a problem with " big oil " employees. How much of a raise you think they got due to record profits bought with gouging the piss out of us? Enough to pay the difference in fuel prices? I hope so, the rest of us didn't. In fact I am guessing a lot of companies will give lesser raises to employees to cover transportation costs. How about truck drivers being unemployed because they or the companies they work for went out of business due to high fuel costs?

I'm sorry. I seem to be missing your point.

I have two problems with "big oil". The first is their financing of global warming deniers in an attempt to confuse the issue and delay action to correct the situation. and second, their windfall profits due to having control of one of the two political parties in the US. I don't think that any company should profit by paying politicians to support policies that run counter to the interests of the nation. I also have a thing against war profiteering.

What's to complain about, those are good things. Complainers never look on the bright side, or try to find positives, everything is necessarily good or evil.
