Gracie, this is how I do it. I'm not referring to the small petty choices of our present lives. I'm taking about the major choices in life and saving you from the anxiety of those, that will detract you from living in the present.
I spend my growing up years learning what works in life, and developing some standards for a good life. I accrued a moral basis from which I could make choices. I made those choices, so I didn't have to choose over and over the path I wanted to take in life. I chose it once.
Then, when you're faced with a decision, it's much easier. You won't be caught in the turmoil of regrets of the past, or vain hopes for the future. You honor the past and look forward to the future with hope. You live in the moment, and enjoy the moment, never agonizing over the small things - you have chosen your course.

It is many things. Partly, it is keeping positive thoughts in your head about the moment at hand. While one an always find fault about anything, try to focus on what gives you pleasure about it. Partly, it will be a mental exercise, but also it is about experiencing the moment through ALL of your senses. Slow down the mind and take-in all that your body can sense. Forget about any worries.
That said, it is a bit of nonsense, but still worth trying to do time-to-time, especially if you have a difficult time enjoying life.

Your question is ambiguous. I will try to answer though from my point of view of what I feel you are sking, and hope thats what you were asking.
Living in the moment really speaks to gaining or having the ability to live effectively moment by moment, instead of living in fear, regret, confusion. Which is what most of us do.
I myself am trying to learn how to live life day by day, be a better person each time I wake up, and replace my bad thoughts with good ones --- because thoughts become actions...then actions become habits...and habits they can eventually kill us if they are really bad ones...see what I mean?

Grace, I live in the moment by looking into my children's eyes when they are talking to me, and when we are experiencing something new, I take it all in. Now I leave the camera at home, so I can really be in the moment with them.

It's hard to remember in the beginning so you can use tricks like setting your watch to beep every hour to remind you. Or practice awareness of the present whenever you stand up or walk through a doorway. Those cues will help you remember more often.

Grace,
I go to the theater and get taken away into another world. Then I get a different perspective.

You have to keep redirecting yourself. Pay attention to the things around you, and dismiss thoughts that are about future or past events. Eventually it gets easier.
