Food, sleep and sexual urge are basic instincts
built into the genes of all living beings.

A living being requires adaptation to the changing
conditions of external and internal environment.
French physiologist Claude Bernard proposed the
law of Homeostasis which states that constancy (or
stability) of internal environment is a necessary
condition for a living being. It uses its internal
autonomous regulation systems to accomplish this
task. It may be noted here that the very logic of
'constancy' prohibits development with time
required for a living being. In feedback control
systems of Electrical Engineering, existence of a
negative component is a must, and it is used as
feedback to obtain automatic control of a system.
Accordingly, development (or growth) should be
called a 'disturbance' (or deviation) of
constancy, and it is programmed in the genes of a
living being for continuation of the species. The
law of deviation of Homeostasis was developed in
1979 by Soviet physiologist V.M. Dilman.

The cybernetic system in the body of an unmarried
man follows tha law of Homeostasis. Marriage
overcomes the limitations of that law and provides
the benefits of the law of deviation of
Homeostasis.

I once read that, "Everything we do between sexual encounters is nothing but a way to kill time." Our survival as a species relies on sex, it is the most powerful drive we have. Unlike other species we have no periods of, "Heat." We are ready for sex anytime the opportunity presents itself. Hitler's pals experimented by putting human beings into ice water for prolonged periods of time in an attempt to find a way to save lives of German fighter pilots who were forced ditch into the cold ocean. They placed a shivering, near death, male and female together, the couple invariably huddled together to share body heat, and when some strength returned, they copulated. Powerful stuff, sex drive.

dadhichid - there doesn't need to be a psychological or philosophical explanation for why human beings want to have sex.

SEX is one of our basic human drives (needs). The other basic human drives are nourishment (food and water) and sleep. If a person is starving or dying of thirst they will DO ANYTHING to get food or water. If a person needs sleep, their body will just go to sleep.

Reproduction of its species is a biological imperative in every animal (including humans). In all animals their basic functions are eating (and drinking), bodily elimination, sleep and reproduction (sex). Our bodies are designed for this.

I don't know about psych or philosophical stuff, and no one can explain why people do stupid irresponsible stuff...but....

Humans, like it or not are sexual beings. Sex even keeps us healthy, somewhere i heard that having sex 2 or 3 times a week makes you live longer. I think for some people sex is like a drug it gives them a high and that's why they have sex with inappropriate people.

Well, in both sexes, oxytocin is released in the brain during orgasm. Researchers think oxytocin might be involved in bonding and might be involved in a trusting feeling people get. In addition, female brains release the same chemical during climax as when they are breastfeeding. This chemical, the name slips me now, cause the feeling of relaxation and oneness. Us, human beings, being creature that like pleasure and gratification, I believe it is part that and part of trusting someone and the feeling of togetherness.

With all our complicated lives and the compromises most
people make, it's one of the only things where we can
completely be ourselves and be accepted for it. We feel
vulnerable enough to reveal our inner selves and usually
safe in the fact that our trust will not be betrayed.

Humans are wimps when it comes to sex compared to some critters.
Some bees and such die right after it.
Some spiders get eaten and others dive into the ground.
I think we have it pretty easy.
