Okay, so where are you guys when everyone repeats ad naseum that Buck and McCarver and the TBS guys and everyone else 'sucks'? No one is suggesting anyone they like. Now all of the sudden people are defending Joe Buck? I'm aghast!!

So. There ARE some people here who will say who they like. I am relieved.

I disagree with many on your list. Just because YOU think they're bad, doesn't make them bad. It's just your opinion.

The following have never been called bad before this question;

They have all won the Ford Frick award:

Vin Scully -- are you serious? He's one of the best to ever broadcast a game.

Curt Gowdy - same as Scully.

Mel Allen - ditto for Scully and Gowdy.

Red Barber

Bob Uecker

Joe Garagiola

Jack Buck

You're very off base here, get a clue.

Now that you have our attention would you like to explain to the class what would make for a good announcer, Because if Scully ,Allen ,Barber and Brickhouse aren't good then nobody is -either that or you don't know what you are talking about [ a much more likely possibility ]
The old guys were as good as they were because they learned their craft before the days of TV when an announcer had to be able to paint word pictures.

i've got consistently instructed human beings i'm a super purple Sox fan, yet i became partial to baseball earlier i became partial to the purple Sox. I grew up discovering with regard to the sport and that i shop on with it heavily. I additionally love speaking and think of i'd be a good announcer - on some crappy radio station maybe!

Are the volume control and mute button on your remote not working?
Don't be afraid - tell us how you really feel. Or better yet, contact all the teams in the big leagues and their radio and TV affiliates and see if you can do a better job. Who knows, maybe someday people all over the world will be able to come into this forum and talk about how little you know as well.

I used to like Harry Kalas in Philly and Duane Kiper in SF but you are right that not many in Baseball are very good any more. The national guys that played act like they were the greatest ever when they played and some liek McMoron were average at best! Many of them do not realize how horrible they sound, they think that every moment must be filled with their voice...some dead air to give the fan at hom ethe baseball experience is better than filling it with useless analogies that have nothing to do with the game at hand.

I agree with Kris' list as well.

Jack Buck, Harry Carey and Dizzy Dean are all dead.

Joe's really not that bad, it's just when he's on FOX that he gets stiff.

Marty Brenneman isn't bad. His kid Thom is horrible - ship his @$$ back to Arizona!

I elect Gene H to announce every game of every team in every sport from here on out!

I couldn't agree more. Here's my question; Why can't major sporting events be on two channels. One channel with the normal announcers, doing their thing. The other channel with no announcers and the sounds of the stadium turned up. In between pitches or plays the camera's just pan around the stadium checking out the fans and the guys on the bench. For football maybe one announcer that says who's getting subbed in for who. Make it feel like your at the game as much as possible. That would be awesome.

Joe Buck = the worst

His overreaction on the Randy Moss thing was the dumbest thing I have ever seen from a broadcaster.

Because the good ones have something important to announce. You can see some them on CNN, Fox News, or ABC.
