The fisher price fishy swing, couldn't have lived without it. I hear the new rain forest one is even better because it can plug it also! Also loved our carrier because my son loved to be held and I could still get some stuff done. The over head baby gyms are nice too because of all the different toys for them to look at and eventually play with. You will want plenty of diapers too!

The little cages that you put all the babybottle parts in, when you want to wash them in the dishwasher. We have 2, because we use Dr. Brown's bottles (another thing for your list), and they have a lot of parts.

A bouncer seat. If your baby has acid reflux, he/she will just about LIVE in a bouncer seat. These also go by the term "pumpkin seat"...I dont' know why.

A baby-wipe warmer.

Aveeno babywash/shampoo, and Aveeno lavender baby lotion (in a tube). Both smell wonderful...it is the only wash I use.

Circo long baby soft plastic spoons.

A soft squishy babybottle warmer for the CAR.

A cheap stroller.

Zutano booties (you can find them at babycenter.com store. The only booties that stay on. Wait til they go on sale to buy them...
Also, they tend to run a little large, but they are great.

As many board books as you can accumulate.
My daughter started looking at them at 3 months, and can read the alphabet and numbers 1-12, and can identify certain words now, because I read and read and read to her.

Things NOT to buy:
A diaper genie, or other brand. Useless. They all smell terrible after a couple months.

Shoes. Babies don't need shoes until they have been walking for a while...words of my doctor.

I think books are wonderful. ON my babyshower invitation I had a poem that said, in short, to get a book instead of a baby shower card and sign it as you would a card so the baby will always know who got them the book. I got around 30 books. Everyone's favorites were passed down to my little boy with little notes inside for him. (I have the poem from my invitation if you are interested..)

Other items:

Dr Brown's bottles are wonderful. Yes, they have many more parts than other bottles, but they really do cut down on the gassiness.

Baby wipes warmer

Infant tylenol/ any bathroom supplies (I hate spending money on that kind of stuff)

Lots of diapers

Burp cloths (I didn't get any at my shower and had to buy them)

A portable changing pad

Humidifier

2-3 changing pad covers

Bouncy chair

Sleeper pajamas without the feet (I wish I had more of these, b/c if your child grows fast like mine, you can wear these longer with socks

I like the diaper genie as well

a baby swing is a MUST have! they are a complete life saver and most babies just love the rocking motion. I would also recommend a diaper genie. I didnt think that I would use mine, but it definately keeps the smell down and takes up very little space. Buy inserts that are scented. And I would also recommend a feeding pillow that fits around your waist, saves your arms from getting tired. I had one givin to me, and my baby is now 9 weeks.. they're great :)

Swing, bouncer seat, disposible changing pads (for when you go out with the baby, the changing tables in most public places are gross) my biggest must have is a radio, I know it sounds silly, but one of the only things that will calm down my 3 mth old is music. We have a small radio/cd player in his room, and it is a life saver. Oh, and instead of the boppy pillow, we bought one of the boppy loungers, and he loves to sit in it.

some sort of chair for him/her to sit in that vibrates or swings. we received a fisher price newborn to toddler rocker. i absolutely love it. my son has been using it since we got home from the hospital. it has a vibrate function on it and nice bright colors. it takes 1 D battery and the battery lasts alot longer than i expected. he's 8 weeks old now, we use it every day and we are on the third battery.

i'm breastfeeding so the my brest friend pillow is also great for me. i also like having a wipe warmer and diaper genie ii.

williams sonoma has these great big spoons with holes in them. they are only like 2 or 3 dollars. I have 3.

Why they are great is when you start making single serving veggies, like peas, corn, etc that are frozen you might boil them for a little bit in the microwave. I then use this big spoon to take then out and drain and cool them. Also little serving tupperware, pyrex is great, for storing little leftovers.

A swing. My baby loves the swing and would fall asleep in it. She is 1 month and 2 weeks.
