Doris, The manufactures and retailers are pushing Vista per Microsoft. Microsoft knows Vista is flawed and has allowed manufactures and retailers to still offer XP until Jan 09 and possible later if they can't fix Vista.

Before you buy, check out the link below, due your research. If you decide to go with a On-Line retailer, check around their website for XP, do a insta chat, or telephone them. Going to a Big Box retailer, good luck.

To convert back to XP, you will need an XP install CD and a valid activation code. If this is the same CD that was used on your old PC you will not be able to activate it on the PC after you install it.

Before onstalling XP, check the web site of the PC's manufacturer and se sure that they have drivers available for the audio, video, chip set, network card, etc for XP. Otherwise they make not work once you have done the install.

With Vista, you often have to delete the entire partition that held Vista, not just format it, to get it completely off your system. You can do that during the XP install.

I think you can load XP.
I have Vista and (knock on wood) haven't had any problems with it.
The only thing I notice different is the McAffe as opposed to the Norton. Both take up allot of space and are constantly upgrading to be able to detect new viruses.
Give the Vista a chance

From my understanding, it will have Vista. Call up the computer company and demand XP. They should give it to you for free expecially if you address concerns about the reliability.

Dont go there, it took 9hrs to do it manually. Cost you over 400$ do do it professionally. Stay away from Vista for a few years. I bought Vista and installed for persoanl reasons. But dont do the same.
