The parents should be supervising their kids. No kid should be out on the streets without them.

Yes. In Ohio, where I live, all towns and townships have designated nights, where the kids can go out and get candy- usually from 6 to 8 PM. They arent to be out before or after those hours. If Halloween falls on a Friday or Saturday, they generally change the night that the kids can be out to a night during the week. The reason for that is that there is a belief that there are more drunk people on the roads on Friday and Saturday evenings, and it helps keep the kids safe. I almost never hear anything about any accidents with kids on Halloween around us anymore. I kind of assumed that everyplace else was aware of this and did it as well- guess I was wrong. But there is a solution, and it does seem to work.

Over here in Holland, we have a similar tradition where kids go from door to door singing with a lampoon, and sometimes an old-fashioned Jack O'Lantern, and we have the same incidents. Parents are advised to accompany their children and only to go out between sunset and 7 PM. Most incidents occur after 7, because there are less children around, which makes less witnesses. Also, you don't open the door after 7, because the kids who show up by then, are usually too old.

Children from at least 10+ years of age could probably go with a group and be safe. Mainly in a gated community, they would be totally fine, but should still take caution and go in a group of people they trust such as family, friends, and neighbors. Definitely kids 15+ obviously aren't "kids" anymore, but they, once again, evidently go as a group instead of alone. Teens probably wouldn't be roaming the streets anyway, they probably be at some Halloween/Costume party. I hope this was useful. Happy Halloween! =)

My kids do not roam the streets I go with them and I only go to houses with visible halloween decorations on them. My kids get just as excited when people knock on our door all dressed up as they do dressing up themselves. Agree with you about a time limit although it really should only be the under 12s who still find it exciting and fun and they should be indoors by at least 8pm on the dark nights so anyone after that will be just begging and trying their luck.

In the city I live in Trick and Treating stops at 8:00pm, the children have to be with a parent or a guardian at all times, and no one over the age of 12 years is allowed to wear a mask or go Trick or Treating at all. If a person gets caught breaking any of these laws, the law breaker with receive a summons to appear in court. These laws have been around since at least the late 70's and mostly a lot longer.

Most cities have a curfew. I personally don't think you should be trick or treating after 9:00pm especially on a school night. Children under 15 should be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Yes..I agree that children these days should never go out without a mature adult....
They should STOP trick-or-treating at age 11....
(I've had kids with BEARDS trick-or-treating! PLEASE people!)...
They should also be done by 8:00pm...we turn off our porch light, lock the door, escape to the bedroom and pretend to not be at home by 8:30pm on Halloween...by then, kids should be home and getting ready for bed...especially if it's a school night....any later and I feel they are up to no good and shouldn't be out running around...
WE control who we open the door for....NOT the kids....

One or two incidents occur whether Halloween is going on or not, unfortunately, but I think parents need to be aware of their children's whereabouts and maybe accompany them. I don't think time restrictions should be enacted.

Depends on their age and how mature they are. I wouldn't let any kids under 12 roam alone and would be suspicious if they were desperate to be allowed to roam alone with their friends.

they should be allowed, but with adult supervision. Even in safe neighborhoods it isn't safe for kids to roam around alone at night...especially on halloween.
