Now I'm taking a certificate for limited X-Ray tech, but I want something better than that because a limited X-ray tech is very useless. I want to know what other careers are involved in the medical field. I was thinking after the x-ray certification to take an A.S Degree/Certification for Nuclear Medicine Technician. I want something short that pays good money in the future...What you guys recommend to have a great career in the medical field that doesn't take too long?

My Uncle works as an x-ray tech and this has been a very satisfying career for him. (I believe he has a Associates)

LPN (Nurse).. this is a two year degree and nursing is in great demand these days. (high demand - high pay)

Medical Device Technician.. our company hires people to build small medical devices, it starts out low, but requires no degree and has high job security.

MA (Medical Assistant) Always in need and short degree.

CNA (Clinical Nursing Assistant) Less than a 6 month program, I know a lot of nurses who have done this to get themselves through college... maybe not the best long term though.

Doc Control Tech degree, I know of someone who makes more than most engineers (around 100k) using just this degree.

Cert or Assoc. in Nuclear Medicine Tech sounds very advanced and you can never go wrong with getting any technical certifications. Especially in a America.

This is a short list, you have a lot of option in the medical/technology world. I think you are well on your way to finding a successful career path and kudos for not doubting the validity of a two year degree. Tech degrees are where the market is at for the future.

Since when is an X-Ray tech "useless"?

I've had several broken bones and the X-Ray techs were the ones who took the pictures of my broken legs, thumbs, jaw, etc.. They were not "useless".

A really great job in the medical field that does not take too long is being a Physical Therapy Assistant, or an R.N., L.P.N, C.N.A., Surgery Assistant, Plebotomist, etc. There are tons of them at any tech trade college.

Cheers

Daft One: Thank you for defending the profession, but the asker is saying that a Limited X-ray Tech is useless, not a registered radiologic technologist. They are different things, and the asker is correct.

To the asker - nuclear medicine is a great choice. You can find more information about it here: http://www.snm.org/ and accredited schools here: http://www.jrcnmt.org/

You can get a 2yr associates in nursing. There is an extreme shortage that is projected to only get worse over time. Once you start working, hospitals will pay for your bachelors RN-BSN program. Also if you decide you want to go on after that you can become a CRNA or an NP. CRNA (approx 120K) pay is awesome and NPs do very well too (approx 80K).
