well it depends...if it's going to cost you money you don't have right now or maybe you need that money (you'd use for this "something) for something else then I'd think you'd want to put this "something" on the back burner or do it piecemeal and take your time at getting it done (do it in your spare time). If it's something you really wanted to do then why would you even care if anyone opposed it?
To do teamwork, to do automation, you may initially need teamwork, or hired staff. If your team or partners don't want your project, then hire the staff who will get it done for you (and with you).

you gotta be your own man. the internet makes the world a very small place. if you start something, people will pass it around and before u know it, you'll find tons who agree with and support you.

Oh im in the same situation now... Its really annoyong because you really want to do it, but there are not that many people that will support you. I would just go for it, if you really want it!!!! You can do it!

This summer I built a rocket and tried to shoot down one of our company planes.
Didn't work but I blew the heck out of a tree
