My significant other uprooted herself for me.
Job wasn't a big deal. Friends a little. The big one at the time was family (although they're now gone from where we used to live, something to consider). She flies around to visit several times a year. She pays for the trips herself and asks me about each trip. I've never said anything except OK. I do some holidays by myself, just part of the deal.
So by me it can work. But it's not a free ride.
The upside is that Denver is a great place to live. Especially if you're into outdoor activities. Tips.
Try to live close to where you work. Traffic is East Coast bad. People want to live here so the job market is a little tight. She finally had to take an annoying career step backwards, but worked herself up in the organization to a comparable job to what she had before in a few years.

To answer your questions:
1) I'm born and raised in Colorado, but lived in Denver for 3 years. It's AMAZING! First of all, the weather is wonderful. We have 360 days of sunshine a year, (most people don't know that!), and even when it snows in the winter, the sun always comes out right afterwards!! There are so many outdoor activities to do....hiking, biking, the mountains, etc. Denver is a very dog friendly town. People are very active. I'd recommend looking in the Washington Park area....in my opinion, the best place to live in Denver.
2) I uprooted myself after we got married, when my husband was in law school. We moved to Oklahoma City....talk about a difference! But we ended up meeting some of our best friends there....and I never regretted it. If you go into it with an open mind, it will be an adventure!
Good luck!

Denver has to be one of the best places to relocate..(or outside Denver) Many opportunities and great housing. Scenery is spectacular..mountains all around. Beautiful all year.. And so many things to do. Hiking, skiing, sightseeing and many other things if you are not the outdoor type. But being the outdoor type is a plus for Colorado.
So many small villages scattered through the mountains. like stepping into another era. Great to spend a weekend or even a day trip. Super beer! Brands you never heard of..not exported...
Lucky you...imagaine if your boyfriend was transferred to Oklahoma..
I relocated to Greece to be with my husband. I come back for the summers. Living in another State or country is a wonderful experience...And you are not so far away from Michigan..
Have a great life.

I have only vacationed in Denver last weekend.....it is beautiful. I actually visited because I want to move there w/i the next yr or two. The city is very calm, suburban-like, very clean, and overall really nice. The view of the mountains is incredible......its like nothing else. If you like outdoorsy activities it is a wonderful place to live. In addition, the malls are even beautiful and have a lot of great stores. I live right near NYC and I actually enjoyed shopping out in the Denver area more than around here. It's much less conjested than the east and west coast. Go for it....I doubt you will regret it!

First of all, you sound like an amazing girlfriend -- he is lucky (and so are you from what you wrote!).
Like the others above me wrote, Denver is amazing.
Here are some links that can give you a 'feel' for our city;

There are a lot of positives to living in Colorado.
Yes, the traffic is somewhat congested, but compared to Los Angeles, it's a breeze! In L.A., there is traffic at any given time (even on Sundays at 10 AM!) -- However, in Denver, typically, the traffic is heaviest during rush hour or bad weather.
You will not regret your decision if you choose to move here.
Good luck no matter what you decide.

AH!
i live in denver, and it's wonderful. most people think we're some small mountain town, but we're really not. we have a lot of good things here.
hiking(even though i don't personally like it), skiing, snowboarding and a whole bunch of other stuff.
something you need to be warned about, though, is the weather.
it. is. unpredictable.
and that is not an overstatement. It was around 75 degrees the other day and then next it was snowing, and then right after it stopped snowing the sun came out. If you do move here, be prepared for weird weather.
i've lived here all my life and it still catches me off guard. lol.

Yes - and it's wonderful of you to do so. You sound like you two have a great relationship. Also, you're going to love Denver. Denver's a terrific, fun city, with a nice, walkable downtown, gorgeous scenery, and tons to do.
