Julie, to me the moon is a beautiful lady and I address to her as such. I know that different cultures may assign a male deity to the moon but I have always thought of her as feminine. There are many goddesses that have a connection to the moon, Artemis, Isis, Astarte, etc. I visualize none of these, though, and instead I am aware of the serene, unwavering, feminine divine. I speak directly to the moon, with no "canned" chant or rhyme, but simply from my heart to "The Lady". If you try this, you may find that it makes a more personal connection for you. You do not need protection here. She will protect her own.

Look into Veda. They have chants for everything, and protections. Traditions going back thousands of years, word for word. Chanting to bring the harvest on, to sweeten the milk, to speak to the elephants etc etc. After meditation there are chants that will 'close' the mind and give you protection.

I wouldnt delve into things that you don't know about. Honestly, I tried this once, and at the very same time I chanted a simple chant, a deer hit my car. My car didn't hit the deer, the deer actually ran out of the woods and into my car. The deer was fine and jumped over my car after busting the side mirror and wiping its nose on my drivers side window. I was not in the car at the time it happened, nor did it happen near me.

There are a multitude of deities both male and female that are linked to the moon.

Here are a couple things that might help you.

Invocation of The Moon Goddess
by Doreen Valiente

Diana, queen of night,
In all your beauty bright,
Shine on us here,
And with your silver beam
Unlock the gate of dream;
Rise bright and clear.
On earth and sky and sea,
Your magic mystery
Its spell shall cast,
Wherever leaf may grow,
Wherever tide may flow,
Till all be past.
O secret queen of power,
At this enchanted hour
We ask your boon.
May fortune's favor fall
Upon true witches all,
O Lady Moon!

Diana was the hunting goddess, associated with wild animals and woodlands. She also later became a moon goddess, supplanting Luna, and was an emblem of chastity.

You'll need to be more specific...different cultures and religions have different deities associated with the moon

WHICH moon goddess? You ARE aware that there are also moon gods, right?

Here's a chant:

Ooh, ooh, ooh.
It's a full moon.
Look, look, look.
It's a full moon.
Moon, moon, moon.
Full, full, full.
Give.
Me.
BEER!

Repeat until you decide to do something better.

There is no moon goddess.

Educating yourself on this subject and learning a chant is about as useful as studying the blueprints for the Starship Enterprise and learning to speak Klingon.
