I think your partner just likes to eat fish on Fridays. I'm Catholic and I seldom eat fish on Fridays. Is there a list of Catholic foods? If there is I would like to know more.

A. Fish is not Catholic food
B. Catholics no longer observe 'meatless Friday'
(The exception being during Lent)
II. 1. The time of Lent preserves its penitential character. The days of penitence to be observed under obligation through out the Church are all Fridays and Ash Wednesday, that is to say the first days of "Grande Quaresima" (Great Lent), according to the diversity of the rites. Their substantial observance binds gravely.
2. Apart from the faculties referred to in VI and VIII regarding the manner of fulfilling the precept of penitence on such days, abstinence is to be observed on every Friday which does not fall on a day of obligation, while abstinence and fast are to be observed on Ash Wednesday or, according to local practice, on the first day of `Great Lent' and on Good Friday

1st of all the fish on Friday thing is old school Catholic, it has not been obligatory to observe it in many, many years. Maybe she just likes fish, and is trying to keep you healthy.
You should ask her to tell you why, or offer to cook the meal on Fridays if don't want to ask.

Back in the day, Catholics weren't allowed to eat meat on Friday, but tell your partner that they are allowed now.. and have been ever since Vatican II....
Actually, fish isn't that bad!
Go for Lobster :)

Maybe they are Catholic or it is a family tradition. My ex husband would only eat fish on good Friday. Strange.

You only have to do that on Good Friday for like 2 months. I guess your partner just likes fish on Fridays. Ask her!

Probably force of habit.
I am not Catholic anymore, but was raised that way.
Hubby wanted to know why we did veggie dishes on Fridays and I said "Because you aren't supposed to eat meat on Fridays!" he laughed and laughed at me. He said since I wasn't catholic, meat was OK any old time.
It takes a long time to break a habit that was instilled during childhood!
