i gess it 's about a more tolerant than average softdrugs policy, but how can you compare it to Amsterdam?

People are very open about smoking pot here in BC. They'll do it anywhere: on the streets, parks, at college, beaches, I could go on and on.

Perhaps because of the leanient attitude that the courts take towards drug use. Vancouver has a safe injection site for addicts in the downtown-eastside.

It is generally used as either to glorify the drugs or derogatory toward s the drug use. so you are right, it probably doesn't compare, it's used as an exaggerated expression.

It might be because there is a fairly large Dutch population living there -- "Vansterdam" = "Amsterdam".
