There are five state prisons in Iceland:
- Hegningarhúsið
- Fangelsið Kópavogsbraut 17
- Fangelsið Litla-Hrauni
- Fangelsið Kvíabryggja
- Fangelsið Akureyri
Murder is rather rare in Iceland. There is just a couple of murders per year usually.

I can only find two on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Prisons_in_Iceland but when it comes to the murder rate, I am able to provide information on that.
Based on the statistics here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_homicide_rate#2000s it has a rate of 1.03 murders per year per 100,000 inhabitants which makes it less common than in the UK (where our rate is 2.03). Almost half the rate. As Iceland has a smaller population than the UK, that means that the numbers of murders are even lower.

The only deaths in Iceland are due to people trying to escape from Kerry Katona.

I think there are two, Hegningarhúsið and Litla-Hraun. The fiirst one can hold 16 inmates and the second is larger with 9 buildings and a high security fence.
