Medical tourism is a practice of going to another country just to obtain health care like cardiac surgeries and cosmetic surgeries.
The Philippines has been growing as a destination for medical tourism. Cost savings are significant since foreign patients can benefit from the lower overhead costs and professional fees. Doctor's fees and facility costs are much lower. Thus, procedures can be performed at a fraction of the amount that a patient would spend on the same procedure in the US or Europe.
Philippine medical and nursing curricula are more difficult than many in Southeast Asia and many Filipino doctors have acquired their postgraduate or fellowship training from well-known institutions in the U.S. and other developed countries

Medical Tourism in the Philippines is doing good. A lot of foreign countries are coming because of our inexpensive treatment and good doctors. We are updating our medical facilities to cope up the requirements of other countries.

I think that Medical Tourism is people going to other countries to get operations or treatments because it's cheaper. Like going to Mexico to get a face lift. The problem is that if something goes wrong, you might not be able to sue that doctor.

When someone travels abroad to a country that has a free health service, like the UK, and once there gets free medical treatment. For example, large numbers of asian women fly into the UK and turn up at maternity wards when they are about to give birth. They get the benefit of first class medical treatment for the cost of a flight.
A worse exampl would be the hoardes of african immigrants arriving in Europe with the HIV infection and as a result of our human rights law, it is illegal to send them home as there is little or no medical care for them. These people are costing us billions.

It is a term initially coined by travel agencies and the mass media to describe to the rapidly-growing practice of traveling to another country to obtain health care.
Well, cheaper is better, right?
But with the Desperate Housewives insult to us, it will maybe scar a little.
People tend to forget though.
When all our amnesia kicked in... ;)

I agree with the first answerer ... was it mari...?
The future looks bright because our country's hospital rates / labor costs are cheaper than a lot of other countries so we will continue to get foreigners who will come here to get treatments.
