In an article today, 1/3 of Americans believe in ghosts, so I ask: at the atomic level, just what are ghosts comprised of? If people can see them and/or feel them, they must be comprised of atoms, but what kind would you figure?

Possibly real atoms in another dimension.

I have often pondered this same question which you have posed here, and through deductive reasoning, I have come to the conclusion that multidimensional planes of existence must leak.

It should be possible for sounds to also pass through multidimensional planes at times, and I believe that they do.

Once a few years back I was in my home with a few friends, and we heard the definitive sound of what sounded like a large glass bowl breaking on my kitchen floor, we all proceeded to the kitchen only to find nothing out of place, the doors to my house were locked, there was no television, or radio turned on, and the only persons in the house were in my presence at the time of the occurrence, after checking all of the rooms, and finding nothing out of place, I pondered multidimensional planes of existence, and find the notion extremely fascinating, and more probable than the belief in Ghosts in our dimensional reality.

So possibly if Ghosts do exist, then they are only real physical beings in another dimension, and we are only glimpsing shadows of it, or hearing sound waves traversing through multidimensional planes into our dimensional reality.

Also I would like to add that in a detective like fashion I even explored, and searched the outside of my residence with my friends, in search of broken glass, and found none, the sound which we heard was not a hallucination, and it was very loud, sharp, and very distinctive, and I would have sworn under oath that I heard a large glass bowl breaking all over my kitchen floor even though we could find no proof, or evidence of an occurrence.

Physics is 'Real'
Multidimensions are 'Real'
Sound Waves are 'Real'
My Answer is 'Real'

You ask this question in the category of physics, and I attempted to share my thoughts with you here, and keep it real to Physics.

If some people do not like my answer, and want to give it thumbs down, than so be it, but if it helps only one person, than I have not wasted my time here.

Ghosts are made from a potent combination of hallucination, superstition, and imagination.

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but the vast majority of all "ghostly encounters" have mundane scientific explanations. There are a few that can't be easily explained, but that doesn't mean they prove the existence of ghosts. I won't say that there is absolutely NO way that ghosts could exist, but I will say that there is simply not any scientific evidence that they do.

If (and this is a really big IF) ghosts were real, then they would be made from the same stuff that everything else is made of: atoms and ions. Not ethereal, ghostly atoms, just good ol' garden variety atoms and ions. Assuming they're made of the same stuff they were made of in life, then they would be mostly carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur atoms and ions.

They are made of ephemeral atoms. These are not the same atoms of matter we encounter in our day to day existence. These atoms may exist today and gone tomorrow.

Only very few people can actually see and feel ghosts. Electromagnetic radiation, natural psychological deviations, money (like in ones charlatan tendencies) and certain medication can help in detecting this interesting phenomenon.

The simple way of putting it. Ghosts are made up of energy.

They come from magnetic waves that change brain waves and cause hallucinations.
