What would you think of an old friend who showed up after 20 years, introduced him to all your friends, welcomed him into your sports team only to find out he is plotting to discredit you and bring you down? Might this have something to do with the fact that i continuously beat him and his son at sport?

First, from where or whom did you find this dastardly scheme to "bring you down"? If it wasn't from the horse's mouth, so to speak, then you shouldn't pay attention to idle gossip (maybe the person who told you about it is jealous of the "new" guy). If you heard it from the "old friend", is it possible that he's just kidding? People rarely hold grudges for that long a time, despite what you see on TV and the movies.

Second, people get beaten in sports all time, without seeking "revenge" of any kind. I'm an avid tennis player, who has *never* won a singles match! I assure you that I don't hold grudges against any of my opponents!

Third, paranoia is a psychological issue that everyone has to deal with. Get over it or see a shrink.

Yes it might. Try not to let the betrayal change the person you are.

If you are successful,
You will win some false friends
And some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
People may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
