I think you may have asked this before. Someone did. I said most republicans are happier because they live with their head in the sand. They don't actually see what's going wrong ever. I know I'd be happier if I lived in a world where my mother vaccuumed in pearls like June Cleaver.

Secondly, Democrats carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, so it can be disheartening at times.
Life doesn't always have to be about being happy, or as RLP thinks, rich. Sometimes being content and comfortable is enough.

Republican philosophy assumes that bad things don't happen to good people or at least not often. People who have never experienced hardship or a personal tragedy are more likely to believe that people get what they deserve in life, so they are more likely to be both happy and Republican.

I really find it hysterical that you think the nanny state comes from the left. I remember Guiliani's NY. Goodness, that was what you call a nanny state. Bloomberg too, has passed laws regarding what bodegas can sell, and even banned trans-fats. They are both Republicans.
All the Democrats I know are good people, happy, and hard working. Open your mind a bit.

I am a Democrat and I am very happy, except for Bush ruining our country and the fires here in San Diego.
I believe that republicans see things in black and white, making it easier to make decisions.
Democrats see things in many shades of gray, making it more difficult to decide which is best.
You say we live in a nanny state.

First thing...Dems have this idea that Republicans are all RICH!
That's their first sign of ignorance! If that was true..The Repub could not win elections..ever!
The majority of Republicans I know and work with are at most happy people..Still pursuing life and happiness!
Most of my democratic friends are whining babies! (I have told them that!..Still gotta love them!LOL!)
Satisfaction doesn't come from money and wealth being handed to you...it comes from the sweat and blood it takes to achieve it!
Democrats want it handed to them...Don't believe me?
Just check the majority of people on welfare, food stamps, WIC, and other government programs paid for by ME! They are all DEMOCRATS!!!!
