Agreed.There is absolutely no need now but the legacy continues due to vested interests of some groups/people.

Differnt Exchanges are placed in different Cities to cover the whole country.

A company must first list with the local exchange and with BSE and then with NSE.

Right. There is no need. Keeping this in view SEBI has also proposed centralisation of Exchanges and if you notice now trading happens only on NSE and BSE.

Why is there a need for stare government and central government ?
One can handle all the functions, right ?
No.
If NSE falls, there is a slight chance that BSE will not fall, or maybe will fall less.
