I am currently on depo-perva. And I have been on it for 7 months. (since I had my baby) and I have had nothing but bad experiance with it. My stomach hurts, I get mean, mood swings, irregular bleeding, heavy spotting, nausiated (sp.?),dizzy, headaches,NO sex drive at all!! gained weight, never happy, depressed, and everything else you could think of. And I was just told Tuesday in the ER that I have to have my gallbladder removed too.
So what do you recommend going on? My husband and I would like to try having another child in June or so.

If you are looking for one with a low rate of side effects you will almost have to go for the condom. The pill caused me allot of side effects, but depo didn't. Maybe you might get lucky with it but I am not so sure it is a good idea if you plan on getting pregnant again in less than a year, because babies typically are healthier if you act like you are already pregnant 6 months before you actually get that way. (Taking prenatal vitamins, regular exercise, as drug and chemical free as possible.)
But even if you tried the pill chances are you would need to use condoms for about a month, anyway while waiting for the pill to take full effect.
But your doctor should know about more options than I do check with him or her.

If you can stop using Depo Provera ASAP, please stop. I absolutely loved it until my ObGYN found a problem - Osteopenia....the beginning stages of Osteoporosis. One of the side affects of Depo is bone loss. I've been able to reverse most of the affects thru exercise and calcium/vitamin D supplements. If taking the pill and other hormones turns you off to, talk to your doctor about the IUD.....I know its had a bad rap but technology has well advanced past the old versions and it is 99% effective and not permanent.

Depo-prova made my g/f crazy!
She is on the "ring" which is inserted into the vagina. You insert it, 3 weeks later you take it out. It's a continous supply of birth control and doesn't seem to make her as crazy.
As a guy, you can't really notice it's there during intercourse. Plus she never has to worry about taking the pill everyday.

I have two kids, in between I use IUD-''spiral'', not so much problems, little bit longer period, but regular. I can warmly recommend to any women
There are many good ones on the market. Consult your gynecologist and I suggest you to get one yourself.
First one- two months you could have some pain in the time of period but that would be all, afterwords no bigger problems.
And you can take it out anytime.
Good luck! :)

I was on depo for a while and got off of it too.
I've been on Kariva (pill) for almost two years and I've had NO side affects like I had on depo, I have no side affects whatsoever actually.

Tikva is right. Everyone is different. I would suggest a low dose of hormones. Please remember that any of these hormones in any form can increase your risk for blood clots, edmea nause, headaches etc. See your doctor for further information
