Because this guy is a jerk. Age has nothing to do with it.. Charlie Chaplin, to give one example, was 52 when he married his 18 year old wife - 34 years difference in ages - and they were happily married for years until his death and she never even dated after that but rather fell apart and became an alcoholic because she could not handle life without him.
your friend has to be more cautious who she picks to get into a relationship with next - and take out a lot of insurance on this guy!!

This man is 74 and he was flirting with someone else?! It just comes to show you that a cheater will always be a cheater...no matter what his age. About the age difference, I don't think a 53 year old woman and a 74 year old man, being a couple is anything "abnormal" at all. I'd think differently, though, if a 20 yr old and a 40 year old were together.

maybe he wants to score and prove to himself that he's still sexy and can attract youngsters.
It sounds to me he's a player. Maybe he was dating other girls before marrying your friend who couldn't or didn't want to face that fact? AND NOW SHE CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE.
Tricky. This has nothing to do with the age gap anyway.
