I work for a company in California that has 2 warehouses a mile apart from each other. They pay 150 employees in one of them an average rate of $12.00/hour and 150 employees in the other warehouse an average rate of $17.00/hour to perform the same job. It is not based on sex, but is this still wage discrimination? Any laws that cover this?

There's no such thing as "wage discrimination." If one warehouse has a higher average wage than the other, it could be because the folks working there have been with the company longer than the folks at the other warehouse. They've been with the company longer, have higher wages, therefore a higher average wage. It could also be that when the folks at the $12 warehouse were hired, there was an oversupply of labor, so the company was able to offer a lower starting wage as they knew that people would accept the jobs.

If you can't find that the wage difference is due to anything covered under discrimination laws (age, sex, religion, marital status, veteran status, etc), then the company's not doing anything wrong.

Nope. they are under no obligation to pay any two employees the same amount...

I knew of a waerhouse where workers in one specific area earned $3.00 more per hour than others. It was an area that had the highest turnover rates, so the higher wage was meant to keep people from quitting.

If you want, you can volunteer to drive the extra mile and join the higher paid team...

As long as they are paying minimum wage, there is no law that the average wage at each facility must be the same. If someone with the exact same experience and who does the exact same job is paid more at on faciltiy then someone at the other facility, there may be a problem. Unless, you can find a reason for the difference, the fact that there is a difference doesn't make it unlawful.

There is no law on "Wage Discrimination". Discrimination is based on race, sex, national origin, age, but not wages.

There could be valid reasons why the two warehouses on separate pay scales. I'm sure there is, but no "Wage Discrimination".
