You can start by googling halloween or go to ask.com and ask the history of halloween. It is very easy information to get. Good luck!

It goes back to the Celtic festival Samhain (pronounced "sow-en"--sow as in female pig. The Catholic church tried to Christianize it by renaming it "All Souls Night." It was supposed to be a time when the boundaries between this world and the other world were broken down.

There was nothing originally "Satanic" about Halloween (Satan is a figure from the Bible in any case, and the ancient Celts would have had no concept of such a Jewish figure.) It was a pagan festival, that's all. (Pagan meant country people, as distinct from the ancient Christians who tended to live in towns and cities.)

It has Pagan roots (was an ancient Celtic holiday called Samhain honoring the dead) but the holiday we know today was concocted by the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages as a means to convert Pagans, hence the name "All Hallow's Eve" which later became Halloween. There is nothing at all Satanic about it although many Satanists and wannabes try to cash in on it for shock value.

You want to take the fun out of dressing up and playing pretend and getting free candy from strangers.

And you want to pretend that its going to be "fun"?

Look. Kids have dressed up like monsters for 70 years or more. The vast majority of all of them grew up without turning into pagans or Satan-worshipers.

Why are you in such a hurry to beat the fun out of childhood?
