I thought throwing punches with gloves on was not allowed. Also, how tough is the big Chara? how does he rank against other fighters? Like Chara vs Laroque?

Don't kid yourself - Chara is easily in the top 3 for tough guys in the NHL. The reasons he dosent fight very much are 1) he is a skilled D and the coaches want him on the ice 2) there are not many guys that will fight him. He has been super tough since Junior and every NHL'er knows it.

I would have to say, other than the one punch Chara landed on Koci's already stitched nose, it was a pretty even fight. Let's not forget the punch that Koci landed which knocked Chara back and buckled his knee's for a brief moment. That said, I would have to say Chara is probably at least in the top 5, maybe even the top 3?

He was fighting with his gloves on? All I saw was the blood on the ice and Chara using Koci's face as a punching bag.

I've seen the replay several times now and Chara was NOT wearing his gloves however, he and Koci were wearing their lids. It would seem that all of the talking heads at ESPN are exploiting the fight to take some cuts at hockey and promote a kinder and gentler game.

Chara doesn't fight often. Last night was his first fight in a Bruins uni. Didn't see where he had his gloves on. Koci isn't small but he fights like Tweety Bird. Boogaard would dust Chara.

Shaw is a pest like Tootoo or Esa Tikkanen became for the Oilers. he's meant to goad Chara into fights. somebody like McQuaid will clobber him, or according to threat Lucic will plaster Shaw into the boards with a effective, felony verify.

Chara wrecked Koci last night...but I have to say Koci hung in there considering his nose had already been broken 48 hours prior.

chara has size advantage over everyone and thats a huge advantage. hes not the greatest fighter and i dont recall any fights against legit heavyweights. i doubt he would win, but i dont think he would get dominated either. i wouldnt call him a good fighter, just a big guy.

technically, there is no written rule about fighting with gloves on. However, throwing a punch at someone with a glove on would hurt you more than it would hurt them.
