I don't need to read anything to understand why we are presumed stupid. All I need to do is look at the monkey we have in the white house leading our country and that's enough for me.

It is sad and we'd do well to spend the same time and energy addressing the ignorance that is running rampant in this country that we do making excuses for it. It's a well publicized fact that it's not just football players who have no sense of geography. There are some Americans who can't find the US on a map...despite the fact that there are only two countries in N. America.
Sarah, loving your country doesn't mean that you ignore it's flaws and problems. Loving your country is recognizing those flaws and problems because if you refuse to even admit that they exist, you can't possibly do anything to rectify them. There are stupid people all over the world but they're not my concern and they shouldn't be yours. We shouldn't take their ignorance as an invitation to be ignorant ourselves.
Manz, it is not a "southern thing." I'm from GA myself and I assure you that I am well aware of the location of London and well aware of the fact that they speak English.

I think this says more about athletes than Americans in general...although there are quite a few Americans out there who can't name any countries starting with the letter "U", lol! I think it's our public school system, it's really deteriorating.

I don't know about that but this was sent to me by a friend yesterday;
The following is the transcript of an actual radio conversation in October 1995, between a US Navy ship and the British authorities off the north coast of Scotland . The transcript was released by the MoD on the 10/10/95.
BRITISH: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South. to avoid collision.
US Navy : Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the North to avoid collision
BRITISH: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid collision
US Navy : This is the Captain of US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
BRITISH: Negative I say again divert your course.
US Navy : THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER 'USS LINCOLN' THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
BRITISH : We are a lighthouse. Have a good day!!. (or words to that effect)

I'm not surprised in the slightest by a nation who can't even point to the USA on a map and that's their own country.

If you can base your belief of Americans from one person who is a FOOTBALL player then we can base our view of your countries stupidity off TWO ordinary people:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/4575291.stm
There are stupid people all over the world.
But at least we have all of our teeth!
Edit: And you went for the stupid athlete stereotype.
Ask a question like this and you are bound to get answers that reflect a sense of pride in America. Most Americans have nothing negative against the UK, myself included. But you should not insult another person's culture or country without expecting a little back.

How sad...people like that are an embarrassment to our country. It must be a Southern thing...here in the New England states we're taught early on about world geography. Hopefully you're not letting one simple-minded jock determine how you judge most Americans.

That's based on one person. Pure genius that. And the structure of your question implies ALL Americans.

Hey now. Dont make judgements on all Americans based on--of all things-- a football player.
Most football players are uneducated and yeah---really stupid.
