A pen drive is designed to be more portable then an external hard drive. The pen drive is a memory chip (not moving parts) while an external drive is just a standard hard drive inside a case with a USB connector. But the pen drive only as 2 gig of storage and the external hard drive as 250 of more.

If you look, they do make some external drives with lots of space (80-120gig) that are about the size of a deck of playing cards. They are designed to withstand the rigor of being carried around all the time. But they also cost double what a regular external drive does.

Which feature do you need more? The ability to move the device around (pen drive) or lots of storage space (external hard drive).

Price? A pen drive can start in the $10-20 range for one with only 1 gig (or less) of memory, and go up from there. A USB drive will start around $80 and go up from there depending on storage space. I just picked up a 500gig USB drive with an instant rebate and a $50 gift card for $27 and changes. The last pen drive I brought had a rebate that made it FREE. So look around for a deal....

You have to make the call....

It depends on what you want to do with the data. If you are storing something that you will be likely taking from computer to computer, shareing with others etc.. than go with the pen drive. Get a good name brand one, the cheap ones break too easily.

If you are just needing extra space on your home computer and don't intend on moving it around a lot, than go with an external hard drive.

well a pendrive is more removable and easily transported where as a external hard drive is quite big. Although you can get an external hard disk with alot more space than a pen drive does.

it really depends upon what you are puting on it.

ok well it depends on what you want to work with eg if it documents and files on word i would sugest a pen drive as these are affordable and you dont really want to be carrying a harddrive around with you there not durable enough however if you did want to get a external hard drive there are really cheap on ebay

if your data is really important then i'd suggest external hard disk.
Yes it depends.
