So that the pizza can slide all around the box due to the careless "doesnt give a crap" attitude of the spotty little dude who delivers it! Come on....pizza just wouldnt be the same if it didn't come to your door all folded and squashed up on 1 side of the box and generally looking like it had been dragged through a bush now would it?
Besides....its not the shape of the box you should be worried about. Whats more important is did they make the right pizza and did they remember to put it in the box before they sent it out????

Well, because maybe the machines that make that square boxes are disabled making a square box instead of a circular box. Who cares by the way? I eat pizza and that's enough for me. I don't eat the box so why would I bother think why pizza boxes are square instea of circle.

I suppose it might be easier to drop the box if it was round. also, as everyone else has mentioned, it is easier and more cost effective to produce square boxes. and also if it is a round box it may be more difficult to open, or might not seal as well as a square box. although, dominos pizza boxes are more 'house' shaped really.
I also think it would be easier to display a corporate logo on a square box.

Why are pizzas round when boxes are square? Because pizza chefs are too lazy to shape dough into right angles.

Sir Percy Braithwaite invented the square pizza in 1907. It was officially recognized as the "standard" by a papal bull issued by Benedict XV in 1918.
The Americans, as with their silly miles and gallons, chose to never adopt the system. Today, they still insist on putting the round pie in a square hole.
Those silly Yanks. God bless them...

So they stack easier in the box on the back of the delivery boy's 50cc scooter and when he drops it the pizza has a corner to slide into to get all mushy.

Pizza was invented before the square and round boxes were not aesthetically pleasing to the Italians....

those are innovative ideas. Thinking their pizza parlor would serve square pizzas someday, they already make their boxes square in order not to have any additional expenses (of course providing all-square boxes used for both circular and square pizzas would cost less than ordering separate circular and square boxes for both pizza types)
just my thought about it

Have you ever tried to fold a circular box?
I tried folding pizza boxes as a kid at my then best friend's dad's pizza shop. It was kinda hard at first to fold a square one. Albeit I was like 8.
I think the question should be, why aren't more pizza's square to fit the box?
