Never ok.

Since I grew up being hit, I hooked up with guys that hit. Took me a while to figure out that it was NOT alright or normal.

I became angry and violent tempered, able to fly into red rages. One day I realized that was not who I really am and started asking myself why I act that way. It seems I developed an anger habit, a source of protection and control in an out of control world.

I taught my youngest, girl and boy, that they could feel angry and upset and express it by speaking their feelings. If they didn't know the word that expressed what they were feeling, I'd provide it for them.

If people hit each other it's because they are frustrated and haven't learned to cope any other way.

Wow. That's an excellent question.
I once dated a guy who felt that if a woman was bold enough to hit him like a man, she should be tough enough to suffer the consequences. I never saw him strike a woman, but I am fairly certain that he would and could.

I don't think it's right to hit anyone, BUT in the heat of the moment, it does happen. For example, same-sex fights happen all the time. I think it's perfectly acceptable for a man to retaliate IF he defending himself or defending someone else (a good Samaritan type deal and the offender is acting a nut).
I guess it all depends on the situation...but for the most part, it would have to be a rare, extreme case for that to be okay.

At NO point is it ok for a man to hit a woman. It is not even ok to THINK about hitting a woman.

Domestic Violence is harmful physically and mentally. It can leave a woman handicapped, unable to have relationships (either romanically or as friends) with men. It compromises their ability to communicate with others,

A good female friend of mine has always said that "if a woman has the guts to hit a guy, the guy should have the guts to hit her back, otherwise he deserves to get beat up".

I personally think that if someone hits you, anyone, girl or guy, then you give them one or two more chances to walk away, and if they hit you again after that, then you have the right to hit back. Kind of like the three strikes and you're out idea. If a girl is going to hit me, at first I'd just restrain her, but if she was hell bent on beating the cr@p out of me, i'd have to hit her back eventually to get her to stop.

There is absolutely no reason for a man to ever lay a hand on a woman.

Only in self defense as a last resort. But then again, we set a double standard don't we if we allow one to hit but not the other?
