Whilst the regime there is in effect a dictatorship, the public need absolute proof this time round.
Can anyone out there convince me why we should take them seriously anymore?

I'm from the UK not the US, so I had nothing to do with dubbia getting into office

Iraq is a debacle. There was no exit strategy, the entry into war was based on false and sexed up information on political grounds.

Jif L. I agree, but there is a difference between eternal vigilance, and putting your head into the lions mouth. Eternal vigilance isn't based on a pre-emptive strike mentality. But its good to hear that some top brass are against it as well.

The Boss - I doubt very much that it would be in their interest to use the nuke option. Whilst they hate Israel, to hit it with a nuke would wipe out large numbers of Palistinians, and bring immediate reprisal from Israel. Pakistan and India would go to readiness as would parts of the old USSR. But the silence over Syria is worrying

That has been my biggest reason to impeach the lot of them.

It's not the lying, or the corruption, or how they have katrina'd the people that has me worried.

It's that if there is a real threat, I'm sure as hell not going to believe them along with half or more of the people, and that has put America in a difficult position.

We could very well put ourselves in great danger, just like the outcome in the "Boy Who Cried Wolf"

Peace

Apparently it is what we aren't hearing that makes the evidence for an Iranian threat plausible. All you have to do is read between the lines. For example, why hasn't Syria as yet made a public announcement concerning the bombing of a mysterious installation on their border by the Israeli Air Force? Silence can be deafening, and although I agree with you on the questionable doubts over war-mongering, I can't help but feel the following expression holds some significance:
"Eternal vigilance is the price we pay for peace"

It's not about believing them, the question is: still dealing with the mess in Iraq, must we add iran to the pile?

Even if we believe them (which is kinda hard because of recent history), how about perception? How would we NOT be perceived by the rest of the world that we are grabbing oil all over the middle east? It'll look like we are systematically creating empires in oil rich natons only. The next country would also try to go nuclear. Because the know that'll be the only thing that'll stop US.

If the sabre rattling over Iran stops, I honestly think we can figure out a way to diffuse the tension. Didn't North Korea bow to pressure?

God help us.

We should question everything they say and do for they are not content to remain in their own hemisphere and leave the rest of the world alone.
They have not changed their view of life since their ancestors left these shores and are a bigoted race with a phobia that the rest of the world is going to invade their territory, this explains the attitude they adopt to interfere in the autonomy of other countries including Britain.
The excuse of what happened on September 11th to justify their foreign policy is nonsense as their policy was no different before this terrible event occurred.
Unfortunately in common with his predecessor Gordon Brown is prepared to be their lap dog and waste more British life's for the sake of American imperialism, the press and people follow like sheep.
History continues to repeat itself and people have very short memories.
Does anyone out there know the reason for this?

I did not believe them about Iraq and all I said about the situation came to be. I feel the same way about the Iran situation. Those who are getting their knickers in a knot over it need to relax. Not listen to the fear mongering and sabre rattling. Nor did I vote for these despicable fools. May God have mercy on them!

Wow, this is a can of worms. Might I ask what you want to do with Iran then? Someone has to do something. The president of Iran has said, publicly, that he wants to wipe Isreal off the map, he thinks the Holocaust never happened. Now they are working on Nuclear technology, and the guy is just insane enough to use them. What as a world community are we supposed to do, sit on our thumbs because its not our problem...yet. Iraq, may have been a mistake, but you have to admit, we can't just ignore Iran.

And why on earth would any one believe Bush and Cheney? I am still fascinated at how they were able to sell an unjustified and bogus war to the American people -
Had 9/11 never happened I don't think we would have invaded and occupied Iraq.
But look, Bush had to steal his first election and the American people let it happen. At the heart we are dealing with ruthless fascism. I wonder if it matters if we listen to them or not.. The fact is Cheney is ruthless and crazy. He is hell bent on having another war started before they leave office, ( IF they leave office ) .

Invading Iraq may or may not of been a mistake, depends on how you look at it.

But I really don't fancy the 'mad mullahs' in Iran getting hold of nukes because these fanatics WILL use them.
