I want to ask you about my school project, why do young people in the late 60's like Jimmi Hendrix?. I know he is a great musician, he sure can play guitar. He was a hippie too, why was "Hippiecism" so great back then?

the decades leading up to the late 60s were an era of conformity and blind submission to authority. As part of that, we were fighting a series of wars and other interventions on some rather thin 'moral' ice; the biggest of these was in Viet Nam. Also, the hypocritical treatment of African-Americans was becoming more and more apparent. And thirdly, people were becoming more aware of how big business was poisioning the word - with the full approval of government.

As young people began questioning both the war and racism (and to a lesser extent environmental policies), all aspects of authority became fair game for questioning and rejection. It seemed like young people of the time truly thought they could reshape the world and right all the wrongs. Hippie" subculture emerged based on rejecting the standard norms of the day.

I know they ruined our country. The only good thing that came from hippies was civil rights, and even that's gone too far. Now black people have more right s than white people! In college, I was turned down a scholarship because I was white! Imagine that!

Without them you'd not have the freedoms you have now, or it would have been delayed to the next generation that was sick of immoral power.
