Tempslip has described most of them, but I wan't to emphasis a few he said, and add a couple more that I am really enjoying.
-CLANNAD is pretty amazing. It's similar (but starts off even better) to other Key works like Kanon and Air. So if you like those, or other solid harems like Shuffle!, then this is for you.
-Hero Tales does only have 1 episode, but we are working on subbing 3 right now, so the second 2 comes out 2 should follow shortly.
-Minami-ke is another series I second. Probably the funniest thing airing.
-Baccano! wasn't mentioned, but it is the best currently airing in my opinion. It's action/adventure/mystery
-Kaiji is a unique story of a debtor trying to get his money back by gambling
-Moyashimon is another unique story about a kid who can see microbes. Probably the most original story this season

Naruto, Bleach and One Piece are ongoing series. They are all good but these are brand new series that just started in October:
Blue Drop - school, sci fi
Clannad - school
Dragonaut - action, very good so far
Hero Tales - just one ep out so far but it was very good
Kodomo no Jikan - school, lolicon, very funny
Minami-ke - school, slice of life. Very funny
Mokke - supernatural
Myself; Yourself - school, nice show so far.
Night Wizard - magic
Prism Ark - fantasy
Rental Magica - magic
Shion no Ou - similar to Hikaru no Go except with Shogi
Shugo Chara! - magic girl
Suteki Tantei Labyrinth - supernatural, mystery
You're Under Arrest Full Throttle - action, humor. Good follow up to series
Ghost Hound - supernatural. First ep was strange. To soon to judge
Bamboo Blade - school, kendo, humor
Gundam MS00 - latest in MSG series

Naruto and Bleach are pretty popular there. I think that the most recently popular one I've heard about is Death Note. They just put it on adult swim last weekend. It took Bleaches place in the midnight slot. You can find them online too if you'd rather watch them there. I think they have the complete series in Japanese with subs at animeviewer.net. It a pretty good show.

i think naruto shippuden series are quite new.. on the other hand i think the most newest is eyeshield 21. . . eyeshield 21 is created last 2006

i agree with liam naruto is one of the top rated anime in japan, but suprisingly bleach is the on the # slot...sorry..
