depends on the spider. most commonly it is any type of small flying insect.

some spiders can catch birds.

Any creature that can become trapped in its web can be used for food. If it seems sometimes that the insect is too large for the spider, watch it. The spider will wait it out until it is exhausted then wrap it up and eat it.(actually drink it, it dissolves its food then sucks it up)

Spiders catch fly's or little bugs with there web.You know the bugs get stuck and can't escape then our famous spider arrives.Scary isn't it
