Our own insecurities. Once we realize that only we can affect our joy and nothing external can unless we let it, thats when we can be truly happy. Unfortunately, most people spend their lives trying to make themselves live up to the standards of other people instead.

How far can you go? Normally your ambitions need to be kept in check rather than encouraged. You tend to assume that anything is possible just as long as you try hard enough. Yet for some reason now, you lack your usual confidence. Either you doubt yourself or you doubt your circumstances. One way or another, you fear failure - and, thus, you feel inclined to contemplate a compromise. Do you really need to sell yourself so short? Absolutely not. Soon you will see why.

I think the problem stems from our human nature that fervently desires that our lives be worth living.

In the back of our minds, we think that if we owned something or did something, then we would have a life worth living. We equate the praise of others with our own worth. So obviously, we have to keep accumulating things or doing things to keep that real and imagined praise coming. But we also know that most praise is insincere so we have to deceive ourselves that it's real.

It is the Christian idea that we have worth simply because we are children of God and beloved of God.

I'm sure it varies from person to person: Id have to say.
fear- of the unknown
guilt- we don't deserve it
not really knowing ourselves and probably most of us don't even know what would make us truly happy? seriously try writing it down on paper (what would make you really happy) it's not that easy

Nothing but how one thinks.

If one thinks they're truly happy, they must be.

This is what justifies a murder in the murderer's mind, etc.

If one believes something, it must be true (to them).

That being said, there is no spoon.

Fear. What other people might think, what's going to happen if we don't achieve success. Fear that is just in our mind. If we concentrated in doing what we must do, without paying attention to fear, then I believe we would be much much happier.

Our choices.
We choose to be miserable and we believe we don’t deserve happiness because of guilt and regrets.
