We now know that private investigators (PIs) were hired on the ground in Spain (as it’s illegal to hire them in Portugal). The PIs think that Madeleine is most likely in these regions (Spain, Portugal and North Africa). The McCanns spokesman declared that they are funded by the fund. The McCanns Lawyers and the Portuguese Police gave them their approval. The sketch and the telephone help-line were advised by the private investigators hired by the McCanns. The images were drawn by an FBI-trained forensic artist. To ensure accuracy the artist left some details blank and was given the "tacit approval" of the Portuguese police. This picture will be a very important reminder to anyone who was in the area on that night who may have seen this man.
PJ at the beginning of the investigation refused to release (Images) but did a tactical retreat and released an image of an (egg with two strands of hair)
I fail to understand the criticism directed at the McCanns for these recent developments!
Your opinion?
Thanks

Jack,
1. Statistically speaking, Witness statements are notoriously unreliable.
2. If The police does not release witness statement, how do we know what she described originally
3. If we are getting witness statements of witness statements, does it not leave it vulnerable to a Chinese-whisper like effect?

Jack,
" following up a lead that one of their "investigators" has been thrown out of Morocco for trying to bribe a petrol station employee to make a statement supporting a sighting, wonderful people....."
Where did you hear that from?
Did you know it is illegal to hire PIs in Morocco?

Jack,
"75% of child murders are carried out by family members or close friends."
That is why PJ failed to suspect them from the start and allowed them to "“Transport her body in the hire-car”!!!
The rest of your statement are speculations at best and lies at worst.

Whatever steps necessary to give them peace of mind (that they are doing everything possible on their child's behalf )are just fine and should not be second guessed by the public.

The people who criticize the McCann's are going to find fault with everything they say and do, no matter what you, or me, or the press, or the McCanns and their supporters say.
When I read some of their close minded opinions, I shudder because the Portugal police seem to be of the same unfortunate nature.
The description of the man is unrealistic, but the McCanns had nothing to do with it.
I am really starting to think these people have been framed. I just don't know if I can figure out the motive. There's been some theories posted about it but at the time, I didn't pay attention to it. I hate conspiracy theories but I think this time the glove might just fit.

I take your point, but What Jack says is how I tend to look at this. The story did change, as to what this person was supposed to look like, and what he was carrying, ie passibly a child etc etc, and now we have details of the pyjamas on the sketch. I think if a photo-fit and a constant description were available at the time it would have perhaps been more credible. It just seems to me that now that the rest of the people in the tapas bar are being re-interviewed, this story about seeing someone has to be repeated, and so it has been acted upon with a sketch which is ridiculous in it's expectations. I am sorry to say I really think it has done them no favours. I also think that it is a possibility that this person said this in the heat of the moment, perhaps to protect someone she feared may have been involved. She may wish she had never said it now, but it cannot be retracted for the ridicule it would attract. I believe this person in every respect, has damaged the McCanns credibility, and I say this in an objective way. My feelings as to whether they are hiding something or not is beside the point, I try to be fair when I consider what is presented to us, and that doesn't mean I believe it all!

The McCanns have been working tirelessly in their efforts to find Madeleine from the beginning. The difference now is that as the PJ's investigation has drawn a blank while they pursued the wrong leads, the McCanns have had to instigate their own high profile investigations,,,they are doing what the PJ should have done from the start and that is to follow up ALL leads....you can only admire them for that.

People need to STOP blaming the McCanns for anything and everything to do with search for Madeleine, call me stupid, but isn't it the polices job to find missing persons. Blame them for doing such a god awful job.
Jack H - 25% of child murders are NOT carried out by family members, did you miss that bit?

Just read what you wrote about the sketch...
"to ensure accuracy some details were left blank"
that is an oxymoron at its best!! The sketch is a joke!

Toi-et-Moi, those who criticise the McCanns don't need a valid reason or any excuse...
Today its this sketch...it may be Kate's eyebrows or Gerry's nose tomorrow... A twisted & warped mentality needs no excuse to vent vindictive venom.

Me neither. All those people who carp on about the McCanns are luckily enough not to be in their position. It makes me sick the way they are being treated by some people on this website.
What happened was horrendous. And it is something that will now be with them for the rest of their lives. Revelling in their misery is cruel and sick.

I am neither pro or con and usually never answer on this subject....but if the PJ had done something similar at the beginning, then who knows what may have happened....witnesses may have rung or come forward with who knows what evidence....it is all a bit late now.....should have been done months ago.
