They seem to have all the needed compatible items. any other suggestions for my set up. (I know it's not the best, but i'm a year away from upgrading and want my comp to perform a bit better, in the mean time.) Thanks

yeah, i do have an upgraded video card geforce 8500gt 512mb. my comp currently has a gig of ram. i'm thinking the 650 with 2 gigs should improve some more? thoughts?

Most likely yes since they have the same 800mhz fsb. To be sure better check your motherboard's cpu compatibility list.

If you are thinking of improving gaming performance with such upgrade, you might just be disappointed. Better gaming performance comes from graphics card upgrade. Personally, I would rather just spend the money on a better graphics card then just overclock the P4 531 to 3.4Ghz or better.

Overclocking is safe especially if you just stay within stock voltage and provide adequate cooling.
