In theory it's possible, but you'd probably get more plants through stem cuttings or through tubers with a section of the stem still attached to it.

You can split the tubers but you can also take cuttings from the stems and propagate them that way. A little bit of rooting hormone dusted on the tips of the cuttings will help improve your chances.
