If you mean British pennies then Duke75 is right. If you mean U.S. cents there are plenty around but are in collectors or dealers hands for the were different and a one year type. They are not rare or scarce. World war Ii caused a lot of countries to come up with either some strange coins or a continuation of a date.

its funny because i dont know much about coins or collecting, but considering 1943 was right in the thick of WWII, my guess is they didnt mint coins that year, conserving the copper for bullets and equipment. that would be my best guess, but sounds right. good luck.
