We do our Own.

We had a guy come and Mow for us once but when he found the 8 foot carpet snake skin hanging near the water tank he didn't come again.

What a chicken, Stumpy doesn't come out to play if there are load noises.

And I don't go out if I know he's on the roam. (I can hear him sliding across the ceiling)

I groom my yard with critters in mind and make sure that what is present can be used for food or shelter. A professional would probably consider it to be rubbish and remove it and then where would my buddies go? I do it myself.

Without seeing your exact situation it's hard to say, but $1500 could very well be a reasonable price to pay for pruning a large oak and cleaning up the resulting mess. My suggestion would be to get at least two more estimates from certified and licensed arborists and see if they are similar. That should give you a better idea as to what you should be paying.
