Do not use a thinner it has a lot of oil in it ,,,,it would take weeks to dry before you could stain,refinish,or paint.
I would use a varnish,or paint stripper,or remover, but (please be careful )some varnish ,or paint strippers or removers,(have acid in them ) and it will burn you, if you get any on you, try and find some remover or strippers that doesn't have acid in them,,,and do this outside if you can, and wear gloves&eye protection,,follow the direction and you will be fine

With all due respect; and with the other 2 answers stating the facts; "di (S) appear" is an odd choice of a word. I might have said varnish vanish? LOLOL.
I offer one word of suggestion.
REMOVAL.

you can use sand paper, and carefully wipe it with cloth, it takes a lot of effoert to remove(if permanently applied) you can also use,varnish remover( thinner) careful flammable.

Use thinners, they are cheaply availabe and highly evaporatable....
