If being gay was something you were born with, then there would be no problem with the research. The reason why it's being stopped is because it's known that it will be determined that there is no genetic link.
For this reason, research must be stopped to prevent the truth from being discovered.

Gays have not been trying to stop the research, in fact what we oppose is the way the research may be conducted. Sexual identity being decided at birth, or being genetic is a sensitive issue for many, and if proved right would mean that it is pretty much not changeable. However, it being genetic could also mean that people choosing to alter the 'gene' that is responsible for alternate sexuality. It is more a question of accepting sexuality as part of the diversity in all life forms, than being up in arms about who likes what.
As a homosexual man, I have known and come to respect my sexuality and others' too, and even if there was a way to change my sexuality, I would not opt for it.

But does this study also do the reverse? I mean if someone is trying to "cure" us from homosexuality, will there be a cure for heterosexuality then as well? I mean in all fairness, that would make it non-discriminatory. I have no problem with this study and I'm homosexual, if you can tell me why I'm gay, I'd like to know. I know I didn't choose to be this way, which means I do not feel the need to be "cured" But I'm sure there is really someone out there who wishes they could change for whatever reason. However all of this just makes me think of X-men with the mutant cure... Thanks for the question...

I don't have a problem with research about homosexuality. Maybe someday scientist will discover how to prevent or "cure" it. I'm OK with that. However, I'm not looking to be cured. I love my life. I'm in my late 20's and I wouldn't want to change who I am at this point even if I could. If a cure had been available when I was younger, I would have taken it. Oh well, too late for me.

Hehe I asked this question the other day, and overwhelmingly, most of us who know who we are will never take the cure, if it will come to pass.
One application of the "genetic code" theory of homosexuality that is scary is reminiscent of Hitler. (This was brought up to me by my straight friend whom I love dearly for being our ally.) She said (and I quote):
"What if they found out that there is indeed a genetic link to homosexuality? Will that then give parents the right to decide over the life of their child? I mean, if as a fetus you could know whether a child would be gay, will the Fundies bend the rules so as to legalize abortion of those fetuses? And knowing the religious Right, they will do it, in the name of "God", that they were doing His will!"
Yes, people, my friend is straight and she feels so strongly about this.
That's why i love her so much. Cheers, M.

I don't think it will ever be possible to change a person's sexual orientation.
The reason gay people are trying to stop the research is because it perpetuates the idea that being gay is something that needs to be "fixed." What needs to be fixed is the way society treats us.

What are you asserting? each little thing is a decision for a human. i became born to desire to have intercourse with each woman i discover appropriate. i choose to no longer, simply by fact it relatively is erroneous. You ask, "who says it relatively is erroneous?" I answer, "God says it relatively is erroneous." I surely have made a option to stay with the guidelines of God. A sheep does not have the means to make alternatives; they are animals controlled by utilising their instincts and desires. i can not flow that bridge, i can not make any inferences or recommend something approximately gay habit in human beings. in the event that they decline to regulate their concupiscent needs and lusts; so be it, it relatively is their decision. If God mentioned it became incorrect for me to have intercourse with my spouse, i does not have intercourse with my spouse. it relatively is that easy. The argument is extremely common: I follow God, simply by fact i admire God. familiar I make a option to no longer stay a existence sort of sin. My physique may be services to sin or i might desire to have been born to desire to sin, yet I face up to those temptations and conflict against them. many do no longer combat the combat and supply into their lusts and temptations, it is not considerable in the event that they have been born that way or they won a flavor for their sin over the years; sin is sin. Who cares what sheep do: Many animals mate with greater then one mate over there existence. that doesn't make it appropriate.
