The US Mint didn't make a 5 pound / 60 troy ounce pure silver coin, in 1996 or any other time. Having said that, it's still a pretty good piece, just for the silver content.
As I am writing this, silver is at $14.19 an ounce (Wow! I never thought that would happen again, ever!), which makes your coin worth $851.40 just as silver. You could reasonably expect to get about 90% of that at your local coin shop.
