You would be amazed at what is on your hard drive. When you delete something, it is not REMOVED from your hard drive, the operating system simply lets the hard drive know that it doesn't need to utilize that space on the hard drive any longer and that it can be overwritten if needed. The files are still there unless they have been overwritten with recent machine activity which is highly doubtful.
You have two options, you can look for software that will scour your drive for files that have been deleted usually between $50 on up or if the files are really important you can send the drive off to a data recovery specialist that has proprietary hardware that can extract the data from all of the space on the drive.

For Kruger, Freddy Kruger's benefit, System Restore does NOT recover lost data, It only restores the system to an earlier date. It won't even restore a program if that has been removed with Add/Remove Programs or not. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)
Sam, your problem is not easily solved because you could have damaged the files and the FAT (File Allocation Tables) simply by writing this question on YA. Every time you use your computer for the smallest tasks, you will be adding data to your disk. This data could destroy deleted files unless:
If the fies are in a partition and you haven't copied anything to that partition since you lost the files, they are probably salvagable. This can be after weeks or months. I'll look at Recova (mentioned above by another contributor) and if you contact me via my profile later, I'll help you through the problem. I'm on your contacts list.
Edit: if you do download Recova before contacting me, take Blurred M's advice and copy it to a Floppy or a partition that doesn't contain the music files.

Use Restoration to recover:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html
warning - do not write anything else to the hard disk. The more you work on it, the lesser your chance of recovering ALL the files. Preferably, use another system to download this small utility to a floppy.

it depends...
if they are still in the recycle bin then just go in there, and click restore. if they are not there then it would help if you back up your computer, but not many people do this and i take it your one the doesnt so...
depending on what system you have you can take the computer back in time to save the files, but im not sure how or if you can do this on windows XP but you can certainly do it on Vista and apple.
