While it is to respect the recently deceased. It is more so for the mourners as a way of coping with the situation and saying their goodbyes they maybe didn't have the chance to say. While many people say they wouldn't care because they are dead remember your family and loved ones aren't and it means something to them.

People are very shallow. When someone dies they'll send flowers and come to your funeral to talk about how wonderful you were but before you died they wouldn't even take the time to give you a phone call. I understand its respect for the dead but we need to start respecting the living too.

Funerals are not for the dead, but for the family and friends to come together and remember the positive things.

i like the "buy me flowers when i'm alive...." quote, hey i don't really care what someone does with me! cremate me, bury me, ignore me. I DON'T CARE! I'LL BE DEAD!

but seriously i think that if some1 is really religious and they want a tribute for when they die, you should give it to them.

sometimes people feel helpless and need to do something to make them feel they are helping, buying flowers for a funeral can help, when i think about myself dying i think of the people i will leave behind not myself!!! so if it helps these people to buy me flowers and write a sympathy card to me then so be it!!!

It's a modern celebration of someone's life. Personally, I wish people would think of saying something nice to your face when you can hear it, - it's too late when you're dead and gone!

what's the point in showing one's appreciation, love, or respect to someone who's dead? should have done it all when the poor fella is still alive.
