take it easy and maths will be a piece of cake
(X+11)=42
since there is no number outside the bracket, it means that u times everything inside the bracket by 1 which means that everything stays the same, just remove the brackets!
X + 11 = 42
now .....
ur target is to get X on its own on one side of the equation
there is two ways:
X + 11= 42
-11 -11
X = 31
or
X + 11 = 42
move the 11 to the 42 side of the equation
X = 42 -11
(when u move something from one side to another, the number becomes the opposite of what it was before... ie:2+11 = X ....... 2 = X -11 )
X = 42 -11
42 -11 = 31
so
X =31
check:
31 + 11 = 42!!!!!
yes!
correct!
hope this helped!

x+11 = 42
forget subtracting, u won't do that in a more complicated equation, u are allowed to move the number 11 on the other side of the = by changing the + to a - . So x = 42 - 11 = 31

Here's a step by step procedure:
x + 11 = 42
First thing you got to do is try and isolate the variable to one side of the equation. To do this, you need to do the opposite of everything that is being done to the variable 'x':
x + 11 = 42
...- 11......-11
x = 31
x = 31 is the answer.

this is a really simple problem.. you should maybe consider getting a tutor, especially if the semester is coming to an end (it'll help for your tests).
anyways:
take out the paranthesis:
x + 11 = 42
isolate the variable (so subtract the 11 from both sides):
x = 31
and there you go : x=31
