Last time I seen it was on the sofa night before last, it is on silent so can't ring it and it has just vanished!

You know how if you're on a normal phone, and your mobile starts ringing you get this funny blurping/buzzing noise on the phoneline? That's the mobile's radio signals interfering with the phoneline.
If you have a cordless phone, what you can do is dial your mobile on the cordless phone and walk around the house with the cordless phone to your ear and listen out for that blurping/buzzing noise. It's a bit of a pain, but if you focus on the likely places (ie: sofa, cushions, piles of laundry, bed, handbags, shopping bags, kitchen, etc.) you might just find it this way. It's sure a lot easier than turning the whole house upside down.
