Ummm, because removing someones brain when there are other alternatives is really, not a good thing. The big problem with them was the amount of them being done, They wer used to treat everything from depression to homosexuality. We know now that depression can be treated with medication, and homosexuality is not a mental illness, but that doesn't save the poor people who had a part of their brain removed because people acted before they had all the information.
