What about all of the underage 'girls' who are told by their 'boyfriends' to get an abortion? What about all the father's who 'tell' their daughters that they are going to get an abortion? What about the mother's, grandparents who have an 'influence' in a young 'girls' decision? What about ALL those family secrets? There are alot of young girls out there who have had abortions and just don't (were told not to) say anything about it. I guess it can be embarrasing when a 14 or 15 year old girl gets pregnant. We wouldn't want the neighbor's to gossip, would we?? So, what about 'CHILDREN'S RIGHTS'??

WHO 'CHOOSES' FOR THEM?

2007-10-25 19:26:20 · update #1

If the parents 'failed' to make sure that the child acted responsibly, then maybe 'they' should be responsible for that unborn child!! LEGALLY, we can be held resonsible for what our children do. So, why not in those cases?

There are plenty of people waiting to adopt babies!!

I have no problem with father's rights. If they choose to take responsibility. Whoever will bring love to that child would be a blessing!! I'll also add, however, that I know of a young girl who got pregnant and the boyfriend's father told her that she needed to get an abortion (she was 18).

Still, a 16yo 'girl' is not a 'woman'.

Parents Should be informed If their child is taking contraceptives Or getting an abortion. Both can be Life threatening. Hormones are dangerous and have loads of side effects. What would they do to an underdeveloped body? This whole thing has been a plot by some who would want to take advantage of underage minors legally without repercussions, first by lowering the age of consensual sex without parental consent or knowledge. It actually voids parents rights and the rights of the Child who is not emotionally mature enough for such hard decisions. what about the rights of the unborn babies who are not given an anesthetic before being aborted? They do feel pain.

Maybe she should get rid of the irresponsible boyfriend that Is not required to use Birth Control. Why is responsibility place on the females?

You have a valid point, in that someone of age 14 or 15 is not deemed in law to be able to make choices of this magnitude, and so the choice is often made on their behalf by parents. In fact I had a friend who went through exactly that experience as a young teen, was instructed she was having the abortion, did, and regretted it for at least the next 20 years. But the point at which the idea of children's rights in these cases falls down is when children themselves don't play. I mean, children are not legally deemed able to make the decision to have voluntary sex in the first place, but plenty of them do, and I think it would be a mistake to issue a blanket statement like "if they do, it's the parents' fault" because that takes away the fact that although they are just kids, and we as adults know that, they themselves believe their powers of reasoning are sound enough to allow them to experiment, so we enter a bizarre legal and ethical twilight zone to address a situation that - udner the law - shouldn't be possible, but of course happens all the time. At that point, surely all bets are off, and we can only encourage parents of young teens to break the old stereotypes of embarrassment and support and care for their daughter in a time of immense physical and psychological stress. Getting punitive on the parents is not necessarily going to make life better for anyone.

Hey, what about my children paying the mortgage or the electric bill and with the amount of water they use for baths & laundry they should pay for that too. Don't get me started on the grocery bill.

Children's rights? My children have the right to obey my rules until they start paying for me to live. They have the right to an education, food, clothes, & rules, guidence, disipline & unconditional amount of love.

It's retarded how you sew 'abortion' to 'children rights'.

First of if a parent was doing their frk'n job their child wouldn't be out having sex at such a young age! Second a 14 year old gives birth...who do you think is going to raise that child? The one that just gave birth? Do you honestly think a 14 year old would 'want' to raise a baby...a baby is not a toy. It's not easy and the girl...what becomes of her?

I think the days of hiding pregancies because of gossip are long gone.

Children are the legal property of their parents until they are 18 years old. A person under the age of 18 is also not legally capable of consenting to sex, and in cases of rape, most doctors will perform an abortion or advise it.

Parents are within their rights to order their daughters to get an abortion or give up the child. There is no case in favor of the underage mothers.

Some children aren't in a reasonable state of mind to make these kinds of decisions and it's important that the responsibility be passed on to the parent or guardian.

A 14 year old should not raise a baby and I understand what you're saying about choice, but you have to draw the line SOMEWHERE and help guide these children.

What "chidlren's rights" are you talking about? A right to have sex? Have kids? Make decisions that they cannot comprehend the consequences of?

There are no such rights. The parents should have made sure the child knew how to act properly in the first place but, failing that, they should make decisions that are in the best interest of the child.

If they are underage having sex then they have not listened to their parents, and it is unlikely they would feel obligated to listen to their boyfriend.
If they didn't listen to their father about sex, why would think they would listen to their father about abortion.
The girls didn't listen to advice from the grandparents regarding sex, why would they feel obligated to listen to advice about abortion.
You seem more interested in limiting a woman's rights to abortion than about the rigths of children.
If you truly care about children you will be glad to know that by stopping the birth of an unwanted fetus, you save the lives of 12 loved and living children. But I doubt if you care about the child, as you seem to worship the fetus.
Every woman should have the right to choose

Remember abortions didn't start with Roe vs Wade...pregnant women have been getting abortions since the beginning of time.....and whether Roe vs Wade is overturned they will continue to get abortions.

It'll just cost more money and be more dangerous.

This goes for any pregnant female no matter what her age.

I suppose your point is that pregnant girls are being pressured to have abortions they would rather not have because their boyfriends tell them to and family members are embarrassed. I don't know about the boyfriends, but if there were no stigma to teen pregnancy then family members wouldn't be embarrassed about it. Is that what you want to happen?

The Liberals who keep aborting the 40 million little possible Liberals make me happy. Pretty soon there will be no more Liberal Democrats left to win the Presidency or senate etc.
They just keep killing them.
